En los últimos años, la línea de investigación que he desarrollado en la Facultad de Medicina (FM) de la UNAM se ha enfocado en el desarrollo de biosensores fluorescentes. Este proyecto de investigación corresponde a una línea de investigación nueva en el departamento de bioquímica de la FM de la UNAM. Estos estudios se han centrado en el desarrollo de biosensores fluorescentes de la proteína calmodulina (CaM) como herramientas de investigación bioquímica para el estudio de las interacciones proteína-proteína, proteína-péptido y en la búsqueda de nuevas entidades moleculares con propiedades bioactivas.
De manera complementaria realizo estudios de modelaje molecular (dinámica molecular, acoplamiento molecular “docking”, relación estructura actividad, etc.) para tratar de explicar a través de modelos estructurales las interacciones de estos sistemas con sus ligandos.

- Desarrollo de biosensores fluorescentes de la proteína calmodulina (CaM) como herramientas de investigación bioquímica
- Estudios básicos de las interacciones del sistema Calmodulina-péptidos para el desarrollo de biofármacos
- Desarollo de fármacos antideabéticos, utilizando las proteinas PTP1B y alfa-glucosidasa como blancos moleculares
- Estudios teóricos de interacciones macromoleculares con ligando, utilizando herramientas de modelaje molecular (dinámica molecular y docking)
- Cribado virtual basado en estructura y acoplamiento molecular
- Estudio de los principales metabolitos de la cannabis como fuente potencial de nuevos fármacos
- Panorama general de la industria farmacéutica y la farmacia comunitaria en México
