La medicina regenerativa en el sistema visual ha ido tomando cada vez más importancia debido a diversos factores, uno de ellos es la investigación sobre células troncales. En nuestro laboratorio estamos interesados en la identificación de marcadores específicos de células troncales que tenga utilidad en la regeneración del sistema visual, principalmente en la superficie ocular. De la misma manera estamos investigando el impacto de éstas células sobre la inmunidad innata, principalmente en la activación de los neutrófilos y la repercusión en el proceso salud-enfermedad. Además nos estamos dedicando al estudio de las propiedades inmunorreguladoras de la membrana amniótica, tejido avascular que por sus propias características es inmunoprivilegiado, por lo que se puede trasplantar sin que provoque rechazo inmunológico sobre el receptor.
Por otra parte, el estudio de blancos terapéuticos para inhibir la neovascularización en el sistema visual es otra área de interés de nuestro laboratorio, para ello contamos con modelos celulares y animales que nos permitan identificar las moléculas de interés para disminuir el proceso de angiogénsesis en el sistema visual.
