En mi laboratorio de Biología Molecular trabajamos dos líneas de investigación, la primera es referente a la regulación de la expresión de la bomba de calcio SERCA2 y de la Calsecuestrina en el Corazón; la segunda línea de investigación está enfocada a estudiar la regulación transcripcional y epigenética de los genes de SERCA2 y SERCA3 en células cancerosas. Los proyectos reciben financiamiento por parte de CONACyT y DGAPA-PAPIIT-UNAM.
Soy profesor de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular de la carrera de Médico Cirujano y de la Licenciatura en Ciencias Biomédicas de la Facultad de Medicina de la UNAM. Pertenezco a varias sociedades, tales como: Academia Mexicana de Ciencias, Sociedad Mexicana de Bioquímica, American Heart Association, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, International Society for Heart Research, International Academy for Cardiovascular Sciences y The New York Academy of Sciences.
He publicado 58 artículos en revistas internacionales con arbitraje y 14 capítulos en libros; dirigido ocho tesis de doctorado, tres de maestría y dos de licenciatura, y he participado como tutor de más de 40 estudiantes de posgrado de los programas de Doctorado en Ciencias Biomédicas y Ciencias Bioquímicas y Ciencias Biológicas de la UNAM.
